Preparing for Your First Microblading Experience: A Comprehensive Guide

Appointment Prep

Microblading is a popular cosmetic procedure that offers a semi-permanent solution for beautifully shaped eyebrows. It's an intricate process that involves the use of a fine blade to make tiny incisions in the skin and then deposit pigments to create a natural-looking appearance. The results are stunning, but it's important to prepare yourself before your first microblading appointment. In this blog, we'll guide you through everything you need to know before your first microblading appointment and aftercare tips to achieve the best possible results.

Here at Halo Brow Bar, we believe that knowledge is power, and that's why we've put together this comprehensive guide to help you feel confident and prepared for your first microblading appointment.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure that uses a handheld tool to create hair-like strokes in the brow area. The pigment is inserted into the top layers of the skin, creating a natural-looking enhancement to the brows. Whether you have sparse eyebrows, asymmetrical brows, or simply want to create a fuller, more defined look, microblading is a great option for those looking for a natural-looking enhancement to their brows.

Pre-Appointment Instructions

To achieve the best results, it's crucial to follow a set of pre-appointment instructions. Any of the following activities will cause excessive bleeding and will affect the healed results:

24 hours prior to your appointment, please avoid:

  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine (within 12 hours of your appointment)
  • Aspirin (unless prescribed by your doctor)
  • Niacin
  • Ibuprofen (unless prescribed by your doctor)
  • Vitamin E
  • Fish Oils
  • Blood Thinners
  • Excessive sun exposure
  • Retin A products
  • Physical exhaustion (working out)

72 hours prior to your appointment, please avoid:

  • Tweezing or plucking your brows
  • Waxing

2 weeks leading up to your appointment, please avoid skincare products that contain the following:

  • Vitamin A
  • Retinol
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Lactic Acid/Salicylic Acid
  • AHA, BHA, and other exfoliants
  • Anti-aging products

*Advise your artist if you have had chemical peels, botox, filler, laser treatments prior to booking your appointment.

Procedure and Pain

The microblading process takes about 2-3 hours, depending on the individual and their specific needs. This includes numbing the area, drawing the shape of the brows, and the actual microblading procedure. The microblading process can cause some discomfort, but the majority of clients report that it's not as painful as they expected. A numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure, helping to minimize any discomfort.

Aftercare and Maintenance

The aftercare and maintenance of your microbladed brows is just as important as the actual procedure itself. Aftercare instructions will be provided to you following your appointment, and it's important to follow these instructions to ensure the best possible results.

Some common aftercare instructions include avoiding water and other liquids for a certain period of time, avoiding direct sun exposure, and using a special aftercare ointment or balm. To learn more about aftercare read our Healing Process post here.

Whether you're looking to enhance your natural beauty or simply want to create a more defined and fuller brow look, microblading is a great option to consider. With proper preparation and aftercare, you can enjoy the benefits of microbladed brows for up to two years.
